Breeding biology and foraging of Rollers (Coracias garrulus) nesting in nset-boxes Download full article: [pdf] (326 Kb) Abstract: The provision of artificial nest boxes for Rollers (Coracias garrulus) was done by MME 37. Local Group between 1988 and 1995 in Csongrád County. We investigated the number of occupied nest boxes, the breeding success, the size of territory, the diet and growth rate of nestlings by measuring body mass and the length of tarsus and bill. The breeding success was 95%. Most chick food was insects of 10-35 mm body length. Growing of the nestlings was linear with the exception of body mass that decreased during the last five days before fledging. The size of the territory was min. 2.25 ha, on average 4.8 ha. | ||
