Abstract:

The River Tisza runs through the Maramures Depression from east to west forming a 62 km long natural border between the Ukraine and Rumania (from Valea Viseului to Teceul Mic). This small territory (cca. 60 kM2) which represents only 2% of the Maramures Depression, is biologically very rich, containing about 60% of the species known from this area-. 23 breeding wetland, 66 breeding terrestial species, and 48 non-breeding species were observed.
